Pride is a Protest

TP, Baile Átha Cliath

On Saturday 26 June the CYM held a small pride demonstration in Dublin City Centre in response to the official, corporate-sponsored, online Dublin Pride celebration. We were joined by Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin.

At around noon we stood outside the GPO with a banner emblazoned with a pink triangle reading “No corps, no TERFS, no pigs, pride is a protest,” flanked by comrades raising pride flags, the hammer and sickle and the Cuban flag.

Following the display outside the GPO, we marched down O’Connell Street and along the quays and dropped the banner on Ha’penny Bridge where we stood again with our flags raised.

While small, we hope this demonstration proves to the LGBTQ+ community in Dublin and the island at large that there is a growing anti-capitalist queer movement, a movement which will not settle for rainbow capitalism.

As Socialist Republicans the CYM strives for queer liberation through national liberation. We fight for a 32-county socialist republic in which queer people are not excluded from jobs and housing, where our experiences aren’t turned into diagnoses, where our identities aren’t porn categories and where we get the healthcare we deserve.
